NHS Fife – Cameron Hospital - Simulated House

Requirements

NHS Fife required a complete audiovisual and recording solution for their newly refurbished training spaces within the Education Centre at Cameron Hospital. Having successfully deployed CSKILLS technology across other NHS Fife sites — including Queen Margaret Hospital and Victoria Hospital — the Trust selected CSKILLS as the preferred platform for the new Simulated House and adjoining teaching rooms.

We were asked to provide full video and audio capture throughout the facility to support teaching, assessment, simulation, and debriefing. Key requirements included:

  • Cameras installed throughout the Simulated House, GP Surgery, Single Bed Hospital Room, and Clinical Skills Room
  • Ceiling mounted microphone arrays to ensure consistent, high quality audio across all spaces
  • Live viewing and playback capabilities within the Clinical Skills Room and other teaching rooms
  • A two way communication system, including background audio playback, between the control room and all simulation areas

The Solution

Simulated House

  • Kitchen / Living Area
    • 1 × CSKILLS 1080p Camera providing wide angle coverage of the full activity space
    • 1 × Microphone Array ensuring clear audio capture regardless of scenario layout or participant movement
    • Talkback Speaker enabling two way communication and playback of scenario enhancing sound effects
  • Bedroom
    • 1 × CSKILLS 1080p Camera delivering full room visibility
    • 1 × Microphone Array to capture natural dialogue during assessments and interactions
  • Bathroom
    • 1 × CSKILLS 1080p Camera positioned to cover the compact, high activity environment
    • 1 × Microphone Array ensuring clear, reliable audio despite the acoustically reflective space
  • CSKILLS Control Laptop
    • Can connect from the lectern or multiple connection points in the room
    • Provides full control, live streaming, and session playback

GP Surgery Area

  • 1 × CSKILLS 1080p Camera providing wide angle coverage of the clinical setting
  • 1 × Microphone Array supporting high quality voice capture across the room
  • Talkback Speaker allowing communication from the control room and playback of realistic audio cues

Single Bed Hospital Room

  • 1 × CSKILLS 1080p Camera covering all primary activity zones
  • 1 × Microphone Array ensuring consistent audio capture
  • Talkback Speaker supporting two way communication and simulated environmental audio

Clinical Skills Room

  • 1 × CSKILLS 1080p delivering wide area visibility for skills demonstrations
  • 1 × Microphone Array for clear audio pickup during teaching sessions
  • Talkback Speaker enabling communication and scenario based audio playback

Summary

As part of the refurbishment, the main contractor installed Cat6 data cabling, allowing all devices to be connected directly to the control room’s main network switch. Once operational, the CSKILLS management software enabled rapid configuration of a dedicated recording and streaming group covering the Simulated House and all additional rooms.

Users can now easily select and record any combination of installed cameras, while the integrated communication system provides seamless, real time interaction between the control room and simulation environments. The result is a flexible and fully supported setup for teaching, simulation, assessment, and debriefing activities across the Education Centre.
